Hello! ChipTone is a free tool for generating sound effects, mainly for games but they could be used for anything you like. I'm currently working to flesh out the sampler and the sequencer. This tool was originally made in Flash, but, uh, yeah, that didn't work out. So now it's in HTML5 instead! And Windows and Mac downloadable versions too.

I hope you find this tool useful, and if you make anything cool using it, I'd love to see!

All sounds created using ChipTone are FREE to use for any purpose, commercial or otherwise, under the CC0 licence

ChipTone is being built by me, Tom Vian. You can reach me at tom@sfbgames.com or @SFBTom.
The colours, icons and ChipTone logo were designed by Adam Vian. He can be found at @SFBDim.
ChipTone was partly inspired by Increpare's bfxr, which was built on top of my as3sfxr, which was ported from Tomas Pettersson's sfxr. Phew!
ChipTone was built using Haxe and the OpenFL project.

I'm having a problem that when I export, save or load some file, it closes by itself. What do I do?

I'm about to use this for the first time and I can already tell this is a godsend, thank you so much for making this, amazing work!! :D

Is this thing open source? Or will be? Somebody NEEDS to make a Steinberg VSTi out of this thing, the DAW community will LOVE you guys

Great stuff, although on the mac download version the export to wav file only works if you manually add the .wav extension. Otherwise it creates a .txt by default. Minor issue but threw me for a bit.

same for me on windows oddly

really cool app, is there any chance to add .ogg export?

Noone needs comprssed and awfully-sounding waveform. I mean really, quality of MP3 is taboo in pro audio world. Even OGG can't do it perfectly. WAVs exist with a very legit reason, and you can compress (disgusting) them in any way you like.

Great tool, thank you so much for making it! It works like a charm!

This is awesome! An amazing successor to bfxr!

I can't actually download on windows says the virus check faile

also have you considered adding a Linux binary?

As i collector of vintage hardware synths this is super neat:)

No matter what I change in settings, the frequency graph is always a straight line. Didn't this used to have rising and falling frequency? I think it's broken or I'm dumb.

Hmm that's very odd, the freq controls work for me... What happens when you change the speed knob, or the accel knob? And how are you running the app?

I figured it out, I misunderstood what "Speed" Meant. Speed is change speed, I was setting that to zero and messing with the other knobs. My bad!

Super cool, used to use BFXR all the time and considering switching to this. Only one problem: The download version does not work on Windows 11... crashes every time I try to play a sound. Maybe it's just me. Does it work for anyone else on Windows 11?

Sorry, it was actually just because windows disabled the audio drivers so I was forced to restart... It works great!

This is really great!! Any chance of having midi support?

hey there wow.   This tool is something special.  From a pro-audio standpoint this is incredibly powerful and I cannot wait to see progress and hopefully future iterations.    The real power here comes from the speed in which you can achieve a functional result within expected limitations.        There's not enough of this type of thing out there in my experience.   Great work!

GREAT! I did my chiptune with this :)

GREAT! I did my ringtone with this :)
I would be happy if a chord could be played (not arp).

Thank you so much! I've been looking for arcade game sounds for 1 hour and thanks to you I generated everything in 10 minutes, I love it

I love it! Simple to use, appealing UI, great effects, and plenty of ways to create and alter. Thank you so much for making this! :)

Muito bom seu software amigo, uma ferramenta poderosa, parab茅ns!

Chiptone is very useful . Many sounds and some instruments for my game are made with chiptone.

This is really awesome! Just one question: What about the sampler and sequencer? Is there a roadmap on when you have planned to release them? Or are they currently not under development because of other projects (which would bo totally understandable :D)

Hey, got a question for the SFB team: Are you ever going to update the Itch version of Haunt The House to the newest version? The downloadable one you guys have here only has the winter update. It's missing the train and the manor. I'd have asked on its page but there's no comment section there.

is there a full screen for the in web version

It is possible to make a Linux and Android version of this?
I'll pay for it... heck I'll port it myself if you give me permission and code access for it. Very nice tool :D Almost as powerful as FamiTracker and LMMS with the chiptune plugins, yet simple, it's marvelous!!

Best tool thank you

Oh wow, this is really well made. Great features, cozy UI, super polished. Gonna follow this for updates.

As an old Modtracker user, this instantly got me and I think it's both fun and useful. I'd love to use this in my own work somehow. Great job and keep it up!

This is really save my time from make sound effects. Thanks you so much! :)

This is really good! So much quicker than sketching out a found in Vital, I dont see an option for .ogg saving, though which would really make this fantastic.

This is very well done. The Ui is looks nice and comfy and thought out. Its very friendly for people who just need some sounds effects for their game. I love it.

The only reason I load up itch.io is to see if the sampler is out or not

Thank you! 馃幖

Is this what Sam Hogan used in cell machine for the break noise?

A cool feature would be if you could reverse the final sound effect. Also, when I save the .wav it doesn't seem to correctly append the .wav filetype - I have to manually type it in myself. Just a small bug, doesn't impact the file itself.

This is so cool. Great work.

Hello. Compatibility with GB Studio? (.mod for example?)

This thing is so cool! I wish I had a version I could hook up to my DAW :D

If anyone knows a VST like this, please drop the name so we can all check it out!

I would like to pay money for a mobile version!
